CalCPA Receives Excellence Award Recognizing Financial Literacy Outreach

REDWOOD CITY — The California Society of CPAs (www.calcpa.org) and CalCPA Institute have received an Associations Advance America Award of Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership.

The award recognizes CalCPA’s Financial Literacy Initiative for the past year.

“CalCPA’s financial literacy campaign is a great example of how associations can extend beyond their everyday mission and mobilize their members in activities for public benefit,” said ASAE President and CEO John Graham IV, CAE. “Congratulations to CalCPA and its members who volunteered their expertise on this important initiative.”

To promote financial literacy, CalCPA members visit high schools throughout California to teach classes on money management topics. Members also participate in Dollars & Sense programs for senior citizens and civic groups. These programs provide information about money management, budgeting, saving and investing, identity theft prevention and other financial issues.

In April 2006, CalCPA co-hosted a Financial Literacy Summit in Sacramento. The Summit brought together 500 CPAs, educators, students, legislators, and representatives of consumer groups, nonprofits, regulatory agencies and other organizations to promote a California in which everyone will have a secure financial future.

The Associations Advance America Awards are presented year-round to recognize associations that propel America forward with innovative projects in skills training and development; ethical, technical or professional standards; economic development; business and social innovation; information and knowledge creation; public education and information; civic and community volunteer activities; and citizenship and democracy enhancement.
