300 Women CPAs Focus
On Career Growth, Accomplishment

‘Celebrating Women CPAs’ Event Stresses Leadership

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — More than 300 women CPAs strengthened their leadership potential at “Celebrating Women CPAs,” a day-long conference organized by the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA).

The conference, held Oct. 19 at the Intercontinental Hotel, featured a keynote address from California State Assembly Member Fiona Ma, CPA, and sessions devoted to such subjects as mentoring, building political competence in the workplace, financial planning, managing conflict, networking and leadership development.

“The face of the accounting profession is increasingly female,” noted Loretta Doon, CPA and CalCPA’s CEO. “More than 60 percent of new licensees in California are women. Yet men still dominate the leadership positions in accounting firms as well as corporate financial and accounting departments.

“Clearly, as more women CPAs move into top leadership positions in board rooms and accounting firms, strong leadership and business skills such as those focused on here today are critical.”
