Palo Alto CPA Elected President of CalCPA Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Laarni von Ruden, CPA, of Palo Alto has been elected president of the Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) for 2005–06. Von Ruden succeeds Roger E. Stroud, CPA, of Mountain View.

Von Ruden previously served as the chapter’s vice president and treasurer.

The CalCPA Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter serves more than 1,000 members in San Mateo County. They specialize in a broad range of services — from business consulting and personal financial planning to tax and estate planning.

Some of the activities the chapter plans for the coming months include an estate planning symposium, Silicon Valley Forums for accounting and finance professionals and the awarding of scholarships to local college accounting students.

As a sole practitioner, Von Ruden provides tax preparation and planning, accounting and other services for individuals and small businesses.

Von Ruden has a bachelor’s degree in Chinese studies from Wellesley College, Mass., and a master’s in accounting from Northeastern University, Boston. She is on the board of Business & Professional Women and is treasurer of StudentPlanet, a nonprofit for education exchange.

Joining Von Ruden on the board of the CalCPA Peninsula Silicon Valley Chapter are John Ying (vice president) of Ly Brothers Corp., San Francisco; Sharon Selleck (treasurer) of Burr, Pilger & Mayer, CPAs, San Bruno; and David Tate (secretary) of David W. Tate, CPA, Esq., Los Altos.
