CalCPA Members Provide Military
With Pro Bono Tax Advice Services

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — In cooperation with the California National Guard’s Operation Ready Family program, members of the California Society of CPAs are offering free tax counseling services to military personnel and their families at National Guard armories throughout the state.

“We greatly appreciate the efforts of the CPAs who have volunteered their time to provide tax advice to members of the California National Guard and other military,” said Teri Currier, state benevolence coordinator of Operation Ready Family. “Families with husbands and wives deployed overseas often can use extra help from knowledgeable tax preparers and financial advisers when doing their state and federal returns.”

CalCPA and Operation Ready Family scheduled tax counseling sessions at 14 locations throughout California, including Chico, Seaside, Paso Robles, Long Beach and Glendale.

“Dozens of CPAs have volunteered to provide pro bono tax counseling services to military personnel and their families,” noted Loretta Doon, CPA, CalCPA chief operating officer.

“Their participation in this program is just one aspect of CalCPA’s efforts to reach out to Californians to help improve their financial wellbeing.”

In April, CalCPA and the California Jump$tart Coalition are hosting the California Summit on Financial Literacy in Sacramento. The conference will gather together Californians and the nation’s thought leaders in personal finance education to assess the state of financial literacy in California, create a vision of a more financially literate state and provide solutions to fight financial illiteracy.
