You’ll Be Glad You Did

One of the most significant benefits the pandemic created was the necessity to be adaptable and able to embrace change. As a board, we recently shook things up in how we had our July Board Meeting. Instead of our regular morning meeting, we moved it later in the day and had a happy hour. We scrapped some of the more formal voting/approving and turned it into a chapter update and social gathering. We also invited anyone interested in attending.

It was an awesome event!  We had lots of new faces, and the evening flew by. Those who attended could connect with new colleagues, and those not currently involved with CalCPA were excited to hear about the opportunities to get involved. One of our main goals this year is to get some new people involved with our Chapter’s leadership; this event was a great start. I’m looking forward to building on this event and seeing what comes in the future.

Chapter Social Gathering

One of the most significant benefits the pandemic created was the necessity to be adaptable and able to embrace change. As a board, we recently shook things up in how we had our July Board Meeting.

Since my last update, we’ve had three of our premier events of the year take place: The ABC Event, which was a tremendous success; the Annual Golf Tournament, which also helped generate scholarships on par with last year’s record-setting number; and the Student Event, which was a wonderful time encouraging students to help in their pursuit of graduation and entering the accounting profession.

All three events built on the momentum that we, as a chapter, have been able to garner over the past two years. That, paired with some changes at the state level of CalCPA, positions our Chapter in a beautiful space to continue evolving and generating the value our members are always searching for. The state has given us some flexibility with funding to try new things and spend some dollars in new ways that I’m excited about. So be on the lookout—the business climate is changing as fast as ever, and our chapter is as well. New things will be coming. It’s an exciting time for the IE Chapter of CalCPA.

Earlier this month we had an amazing time at the San Bernardino 66ers baseball game. There were close to 50 of us present and we had representation from a ton of different firms and practice areas. It was a great time seeing new faces and connecting with colleagues in a wonderful environment. I was reminded of how important it is to connect with others. I, like many of you, was feeling overwhelmed with the looming Sept. 15 deadline and wasn’t sure how to fit the game into my schedule.

In the end, I hurried out of the office to attend and was so happy that I did. I left that evening feeling renewed and re-energized. I found camaraderie in the pressures of the deadline and perspective of the value and benefits we’re able to offer clients and the role we play in the IE business landscape. In that way, this event, for me, was like working out. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but once I was there, I was so glad that I had gone and even felt the benefits of having gone for a few days after the fact.

I encourage you to attend one of our upcoming events, like the ABC event. Even if time is tight or you’re apprehensive to come, give it a try. I’m sure you’ll be glad you did!
